HERKIMER-Peter Kurilo, age 93, a resident of 104 North Washington Street, since 2011, passed away peacefully on Wednesday evening May 2, 2018 in the Mohawk Valley Healthcare Center, Ilion.
Peter was born on May 12, 1924, in Herkimer, son of the late Orest and Mary Demchko Kurilo. A lifelong Richfield Springs resident he grew up on his parents farm and graduated from Richfield Springs High School. Mr. Kurilo was a proud US Army veteran and was honorably discharged in 1949. For thirty Years Peter worked as a pipefitter for Crouse Hines in Syracuse before retiring in 1985. To all who knew him they will never forget a warm, caring man with an unforgettable smile. His leisure time was spent shopping for collectables and enjoyed showing them to friends and family members. He was a loved man and will be greatly missed.
Surviving him are three nieces, Mary Halkowich Jaques of Keene Valley, Rose Karpowich Gala of Cape Coral, FL, and Judy Karpowich of Ilion, along with two great nieces, two great nephews, seven great-great nieces and nephews and many dear friends. Besides his parents he was preceded in death by two sisters, Julia Halkowich in 2009 and Anna Karpowich in 2013.
Calling hours, funeral service and interment in Dolgeville Cemetery with military honors for Mr. Kurilo will be on announced at a later time. Expressions of sympathy may be made with memorial donations in his name to the charity of your choice.
