MOHAWK-Peter John Moschetto Sr. age 65 passed away peacefully on Friday June 8, 2012 in his home after an extended illness. He had his loving family at his side.
He was born on October 1, 1946 in Ilion, son of the late William and Marguerite Stickles Moschetto. A lifelong area resident he was a graduate of Herkimer High School.
Mr. Moschetto was a US Army veteran of the Vietnam War. He enlisted on August 31, 1965 he served in the infantry and was the recipient of the Army Commendation Medal; the Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal with Device 1960; the Vietnam Service Medal; the National Defense Medal and the Combat Infantry Badge. He was honorably discharged on May 31, 1968, attaining the rank of Private First Class.
He and his wife, the former Linda Conroy have resided in Mohawk since 1980 coming from Herkimer.
Pete had a strong love for the outdoors. In his leisure time he enjoyed both hunting and fishing. To all who knew him he was a proud man. He was especially proud of his military service and the country that he served. To his family, he was always there for them in good times or bad he was the strength that bonded them together. He will be truly missed.
Surviving are his devoted wife Linda, one son, Peter Moschetto Jr. and his wife Karli of East Granby, CT, four daughters, Cindy Cirillo and her husband Peter of East Herkimer, Melissa Moschetto of Mohawk, Jennifer Lord of Richfield Springs, Christina Bawolak and her husband William of Richfield Springs a sister, Elizabeth Bender and her husband Tony of Central Bridge and eleven cherished grandchildren. Besides his parents he was preceded in death by one son William Moschetto in 1993.
Calling hours for Mr. Moschetto will be on Thursday from 5:00 until 7:00 pm in Fenner Funeral Home Inc., 115 Court Street; Herkimer. Funeral service will take place on Friday at 10:00 am in the funeral home with the Reverend Harry Teuchert officiating. Interment with full military honors will follow in Mohawk Cemetery II, Vickerman Hill Road, Town of German Flats.
