HERKIMER-Quentin A. Becker, age 83, of West Lake Avenue, passed away on Wednesday evening, Jan. 11, 2012, in Valley Health Services, Herkimer. He had the comfort of his loving family at his side.
He was born on July 15, 1928, in Herkimer, son of the late Harry E. and Juliet Nichols Becker. A lifelong Herkimer resident, he was a graduate of Herkimer High School. On Jan. 21, 1950, he was united in marriage with the former Janis Fischer. They shared a loving and devoted union of fifty-one years until her passing on Sept. 19, 2001.
For twenty-five years, Mr. Becker worked as a computer repairman for UNIVAC in Utica. He retired in 1977.In his leisure time, Quentin enjoyed reading, doing crossword puzzles, working in his garden and taking his daily walk around Herkimer. To all who knew him, he will forever be remembered as a sincere man with a warm smile who was never too busy to stop and have a friendly conversation with you. He will be sorely missed by his many friends and family.
Surviving him are two daughters, Sharon Dingman and her husband, Robert, of Herkimer, and Sandra Leonard, of Ilion; a brother, Leon Becker and his wife, Marion, of Herkimer; three grandchildren, Timothy and Kimberly Dingman, both of Herkimer, and Kristin Leicht and her husband, Alexander, of East Meadow, Long Island; a cherished great-granddaughter, Chloe Leicht; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Besides his parents and wife, Janis, he was preceded in death by a sister, Cynthia Morse; her husband, Joseph; and his son-in-law, Kevin Leonard.
Calling hours will be on Saturday from 2 until 4 p.m. in Fenner Funeral Home, Inc., 115 Court St., Herkimer. At Mr. Becker's request, funeral services will be private and at the convenience of the family.
His family wishes to thank everyone at Valley Health Services, especially those on 2 East, for the care and compassion shown to Quentin during his stay.
