HERKIMER-Rachel B. Heidel age 89 of West German Street, passed away peacefully on Saturday morning December 6, 2008 in Folts Homes.
She was born on June 22, 1919 in Salisbury, daughter of the late Frank and Nellie Dunning Barragan. Rachel was raised in Salisbury and was a graduate of Dolgeville High School. On May 7, 1960 she was united in marriage with C. Wayne Heidel in the Salisbury United Methodist Church. For ten years she first worked for Daniel Green Company in Dolgeville. She later went to work as an operator for the New York Telephone Company working in Little Falls, Herkimer and Utica. She retired from the telephone company in 1985 after twenty-nine years of dedicated service.
Mrs. Heidel had a strong belief in God and was a member of the Salisbury United Methodist Church. To all who knew her they will always remember her warm, caring manner and friendly smile. She will be greatly missed.
Surviving are her husband, C. Wayne Heidel along with several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by one brother, Harold Barragan in 1960.
A Funeral Service will take place on Thursday at 2:00 pm in Fenner Funeral Home Inc., 115 Court Street, Herkimer. The Reverend John Reams, Pastor of Salisbury United Methodist Church will officiate. Interment will be in Salisbury Rural Cemetery next spring. The family will be present in the funeral home to receive relatives and friends on Thursday one hour prior to the funeral service 1:00 until 2:00 pm). Expressions of sympathy may be made with memorial donations to the Salisbury United Methodist Church. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
