Obituary

HERKIMER - Ralph "Jack" Lowell, 93, of Eureka Ave., died Monday morning, Nov. 13, 2000, in Folts Homes, Herkimer. He was born Oct. 19, 1907, in Herkimer, the son of the late Charles T. and Lela R. Snyder. A lifelong Herkimer resident, he was a graduate of Herkimer High School. On Feb. 23, 1943, he married Florence Johnson in the parsonage of the First United Methodist Church, Herkimer, a blessed union of 57 years until her passing on Sept. 1 of this year. Jack was a hard worker and devoted family man. He first worked for Laird Coal Yard in Herkimer as a truck driver. During World War II he worked for the General Electric Company in Schenectady. After the war he worked for the Cherry Burrell Company in Little Falls and later at Chicago Pneumatic Company, Utica, retiring in 1969. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Herkimer. Surviving him are one son, Donald and his wife Barbara Lowell of Glouster, Va.; two daughters and their husbands, Ester and Charles Brown of Eager, Ariz. and Carol and Roger Blum of East Herkimer; a stepson, Roy and his wife JoAnn Preston of Mohawk; two stepdaughters, Lois Harrup of Brooksville, Fla. and Gladys and her husband Byron Mosher of Plattsburgh; one brother, Albert Lowell of Herkimer; one sister, Mildred Luce of East Herkimer; 43 grandchildren; 54 great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Besides his parents and wife Florence he was preceded in death by a stepdaughter, Nellie Lowell; two brothers, Clarence and Benjamin Lowell; five sisters, Bessie Tarbox, Minnie VanderWeil, Marguerite Guyer, Annie Reisedorf and Myrtle Ropeter; and two grandsons. Funeral service will take place Thursday at 1 p.m. in Fenner Funeral Home Inc., 115 Court St., Herkimer. The Rev. William Otis, pastor of the First United Methodist Church, Herkimer will officiate. Interment will follow in Oak Hill Cemetery. The family will be present to receive relatives and friends in the funeral home one hour prior to the funeral service (noon-1 p.m.).
