JORDANVILLE- Ralph Louis Snyder, age 62 of DeRonda Road passed away unexpectedly on Sunday morning August 22, 2010 inhis home.
He was born on January 14, 1948 in Little Falls, son of the late Clifford L. and Alice Jean Steenburg Snyder. A life long area resident he was raised in Saltspringville and was a graduate of the Springfield High School. He was first married to Rosalie Oakes Snyder. On October 18, 2003 he was united in marriage with the former Shirley Simonds.
Ralph grew up on a dairy farm in Saltspringville, which was his first occupation. During those years he was honored by receiving the Empire State Farmer award. He then went to work for Niagara Mohawk and the Fort Plain Packing Company. Later he worked for twenty-three years with the Harder Silo Company of Glens Falls. Upon retiring from the silo building business and at the age of 47 he attended college in Calais, Maine for heavy equipment operation and maintenance. In more recent years he enrolled and completed a study in health care. All through his life he took mini courses at B.O.C.Es always learning and teaching.
Ralph lived first for his family and second for hunting season, in his later years primarily deer hunting. The real kind of hunting, where he would track a big buck for miles. Mr. Snyder was a member of the National Rifle Association. In his leisure time he enjoyed bowling.
To his many friends he was always willing to do whatever was asked and recognizing a need when none was spoken. He will be greatly missed.
He is survived by his devoted wife Shirley Snyder, a daughter Carrie Yaw and her husband Bill of Schuyler Lake, two sons, Chad Snyder of Danbury, CT, Caffrey L. Snyder of Richfield Springs, step-children that adored and respected him, David L. Osborn of Canton, Laura Heintschel, of Bluffton, SC, and Michelle K. Fassett of Lansing, MI, three grandchildren, Tyler Yaw of Schuyler Lake, Julia and Hannah Snyder of CT, step-grandchildren who will always remember papa, William, Kaitlyn, and Ashleigh Osborn of Moravia, David Osborn of Beckly, WV, Jason and Alexis Heintschel of SC, Viola Davis of Lansing, MI, his uncle and aunt, William and Cindy Steenburg and his close cousin Brian Steenburg, uncles Howard and Alan Steenburg, aunt Blanche Logan, numerous cousins brothers and sister-in-laws, Damon and Patrick Simonds, Don and Penny Simonds, David and Jenny Simonds, Thomas and Betty Eggleston, Maria and Jim Brashear all of Richfield Springs, James and Cindy Simonds of Portlandville.
Funeral Service will be on Thursday at 2:00pm in J. Seaton McGrath Funeral Home, 40 W. James Street; Richfield Springs. Interment will follow in VanHornesville Cemetery. The family will be present in the funeral home to receive relatives and friends on Wednesday from 4:00 until 7:00 pm.
