VANHORNESVILLE-Richard C. Young age 69 passed away on Tuesday evening October 5, 2010 in Bassett Healthcare, Cooperstown. He had the comfort of his loving family at his side.
He was born on November 21, 1940 in VanHornesville, son of the late Algy and Louise Warner Young. A lifelong VanHornesville resident, he was a graduate of VanHornesville High School with the class of 1958.
For twenty-nine years Mr. Young worked as a truck driver for the New York State Department of Transportation in Herkimer. He retired in 1995. At one time he was married to the former Madeline Landers.
Richard had a strong love for the outdoors. In his leisure time he enjoyed hunting, fishing and trapping. He was also an avid bowler, bowling in various leagues in VanHornesville. To all who knew him will forever remember a hard working, sincere man who was happiest when he was surrounded by his many friends and family especially his cherished grandson. He will be greatly missed.
Surviving are his five sons, Richard Rich Young and his wife Chris of Seattle, WA, Joseph Joe Young of VanHornesville, Thomas Tom Young and his wife Lynn of Sauquoit, Christopher Chris Young and his wife Christine of Jordanville, Theodore Ted Young of VanHornesville, one sister, Vera Marshall and her husband Bob of New Hartford, his grandson, Kody Young, a sister-in-law Chris Young, several nieces, nephews and cousins. Besides his parents he was preceded in death by two brothers, Glenn and Robert Young.
A graveside funeral service will take place on Saturday October 16, 2010 at 2:00 pm in Springfield Center Cemetery, Town of Springfield. The Reverend Kenneth Dingman will officiate. There are no calling hours. Memorial donations may be made to the American Kidney Foundation or the American Cancer Society. Envelopes will be available at the graveside service. Funeral arrangements are with J. Seaton McGrath Funeral Home, Richfield Springs.
