Obituary

HERKIMER Richard F. Macrina age 71 of Prescott Street passed away on Friday afternoon September 13, 2002 in his home. A lifelong Herkimer resident he was a graduate of Herkimer High School Class of 1948. Dick had served in the US Airforce during the Korean War as an Aircraft Engine Mechanic and Flight Engineer. He was awarded the Korean Service Medal, the United Nations Service Medal, the National Defense Service Medal and the Good Conduct Medal. He was honorably discharged in 1955. After his discharge from military service he attended and graduated from Mohawk Valley Technical Institute, Utica (presently Mohawk Valley Community College) with a degree in Mechanical Engineering. Dick retired as an assistant Civil Engineer from the New York State Department of Transportation in 1986 after thirty years of public service. He was a member of Saint Francis deSales Church, Herkimer. Dick was considered an aficionado of fly-fishing and was highly respected by his peers who participated in this sport. He also enjoyed tying flies, tropical fish, crosswordtology, gardening and especially the time he spent with his family and grandchildren. Surviving are his wire of forty-five years Mary Schultz Macrina, a daughter, Melissa A. Macrina of Herkimer, a son, Daryk, his wife Sarah DePalma Macrina and their children, Thomas, Maria and Nicholas all of Sherrill, a sister Dolores and her husband Samuel Stagliano of Clinton, along with nephews and cousins. His mother Florence Laska Macrina preceded him in death on August 26 of this year. The family will be present to receive relatives and friends in Fenner Funeral Home Inc., 115 Court Street, Herkimer on Sunday from 5:00 until 8:00 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday at 11:00 AM in Saint Francis deSales Church, Herkimer. The Reverend Mark Cunningham, Pastor will officiate. Interment will follow in Calvary Cemetery where military honors by the US Airforce will be accorded. The family requests that as an alternative to flowers, memorial donations be made to the Saint Francis deSales Memorial Fund. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
