MOHAWK-Richard Louis Moore, age 92, passed away peacefully on Tuesday afternoon, July 13, 2021, in his home. He was born on April 5, 1929, in Monticello, son of the late Robert L. and Clara L. Pelton Moore. Richard was raised in Monticello and was a graduate of Monticello High School. On March 1, 1970 he was united in marriage to the former Elizabeth Ann Schadt in Liberty. They had lived in Kauneonga Lake before moving to Mohawk in 2001. Their marriage was filled with love and devotion of forty years until Mrs. Moore'spassing on August 23, 2011. For forty years Mr. Moore worked in management with the New York Telephone Company. For relaxation, at one time he went to flight aviation school and became a licensed pilot. His summers were spent with his wife at their camp at Clayton, NY on the Saint Lawrence River. To all who knew him he was a caring, helpful and gentle man. He was happiest when he was surrounded by his friends and relatives, especially Alexis and Caitlyn Dekanek who were like grandchildren to him. He will be sadly missed. Surviving him are In-laws, Robert and Mattie Schadt and their two children, Emily and Andrew, dear friends, Rosalie Higgins of Oneonta, Donna Dekanek and her two children Alexis and Caitlyn of Mohawk. A graveside funeral service will be on Friday July 23rd at 1:30 pm in Oak Hill Cemetery. The Reverend James Barnes will officiate. It was Richard's request that a special thank you go out to Kasandra, Jessica, Jenna and Paul for all the help and compassion shown during his illness. Mr. Moore had a special love for dogs especially his Bassett Hound, Flash, and Labrador Retrievers, Hannah and Katie, therefore expressions of sympathy may be made to the Herkimer County Humane Society, PO Box 73, Mohawk, New York 13407.
