Obituary

RICHFIELD SPRINGS-Richard Thomas Patterson age 66, passed away peacefully on Friday morning March 13, 2015 in the Lutheran Home in Clinton. He had the support and comfort of his loving family at his side. ?He was born on May 21, 1948 in New Britain, CT, son of the late Francis G. and Agnes A. Holfelder Patterson. He was raised in Plainville, CT and was a graduate of Plainville High School. Upon graduating from high school, he entered the United States Army and proudly served in Korea on the DMZ. He was honorably discharged on December 6, 1973 attaining the rank of Sergeant. On September 25, 1971, he was united in marriage to the former Geraldine Tabellione in Newington, CT. They came to live in Richfield Springs in 1976. Shortly thereafter, he began his career at Eastern Rock Products (now known as Hanson Aggregates). After twenty-seven years of dedicated service, he retired in 2004 as Special Projects Superintendent. Mr. Patterson was a member of Saint Joseph Worker RC Church, Richfield Springs. ?Besides Richard's driven passion to work, he will forever be remembered for his quiet demeanor, his kindness to others, and his willingness to lend a helping hand to those in need. He had the understanding, knowledge and wits to make anything with a motor run again and was always tinkering around in his garage. With the help of his son Richard Jr., one of his greatest projects was the restoration of a 1932 Ford Pickup Truck and was his son's very first vehicle. ?To all who knew him they will never forget his friendly manner and radiant smile. He will be sorely missed. ?Surviving to cherish his memory are his devoted wife of forty-three years, Geraldine, their children, Richard Jr. and his wife Lori Patterson of Richfield Springs, his daughter Brenda Patterson and her fianc Shawn Noel of Ocean Grove, NJ, and his cherished grandson, Jacob Patterson of Richfield Springs. ?Also four brothers, Robert and his wife Lettie Patterson of Ellington, CT, Donald and his wife Patricia Patterson of Forestville, CT, William and his wife Tammi Patterson of Plainville, CT, Joseph Patterson of Plainville, CT, seven sisters, Patricia Matthews of Plainville, CT, Winifred Maher and her husband Charles of Bristol, CT, Margaret Matteo and her husband Paul of Plainville, CT, Maureen Girard of Southwick, MA, Virginia Michalik and her husband Laurence of Fort Plain, Theresa Patterson of Plainville, CT, Janice Patterson Of Plainville, CT, his sister-in-law, Rose Marie and her husband Gaetan Roy of Farmington, CT, many nieces, nephews and cousins. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Jerry Patterson. ?Calling hours for Mr. Patterson will be on Saturday March 21st from 12:00 noon until 3:00 pm at J. Seaton McGrath Funeral Home, 40 West James Street; Richfield Springs. A Funeral Mass in Saint Joseph the Worker RC Church, Richfield Springs and interment with military honors in Saint Joseph's Cemetery will take place at a later date and time to be announced. ?The family would like to extend their sincere thank you to the entire staff on the Valleycrest Unit at the Lutheran Home in Clinton for the kindness and compassion that was shown to Richard during the last four years. Also to Dr. Kandiah of Lutheran Care and Dr. Brehaut of Faxton-St Luke's for their special care and attention. ?Expressions of sympathy may be made with memorial donations to the Richfield Springs Youth Sports Organization at PO Box 458 or the Richfield Springs Volunteer Fire Department at PO Box 1456, both in Richfield Springs NY 13439. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
