HERKIMER-Richard W. Rhodes 65 of Highland Avenue diedunexpectedly on Wednesday, September 6, 2000 in St. Elizabeths Hospital,Utica. He was born on June 14, 1935 in Utica, son of the late Edward and RoseDeGeorge Rhodes. Richard was raised in Utica and graduated from Utica ProctorHigh School. An honorably discharged US Army veteran he served in the KoreanConflict and the Berlin Crisis. He was first married to Carol DeSchene who diedin August of 1980. On November 8, 1980 he married Sharon Higgins in the HerkimerPentecostal Church. A resident of Herkimer since 1980 he came here from Newport.For thirteen years he worked for UNIVAC as a Quality Control Inspector and forsix years with Gleeson Electronics Company in Little Falls, retiring in 1997. Inhis spare time he enjoyed being a licensed Ham Radio Operator.
Surviving besides his wife of twenty years Sharon are twosons Richard Rhodes Jr. of FL, Wayne Rhodes and his companion Denise Brown ofIlion, two stepsons and their wives David and Brenda Broadbent of Massena, ,Marvil and Kari Broadbent of Ithaca, a stepdaughter Deborah and her husbandRobert Fitch of Herkimer, a brother Jack Rhodes, a half sister Dawn Jones ofUtah, a half brother Edward Rhodes of Gloversville, six grandchildren severalnieces, nephews and cousins.
Funeral service will be on Saturday at 10:00 am in FennerFuneral Home Inc., 115 Court Street, Herkimer. The Reverend Joseph Jansen pastorof the New Life Church and Ministry Center, Herkimer will officiate. Intermentwith full military honors will follow in Pine Grove Cemetery, Poland. The familywill be present in the funeral home to receive relatives and friends on Fridayevening from 6:00 to 9:00 PM. Memorial donations may be made to the New LifeChurch and Ministry Center Building Fund. Envelopes will be available at thefuneral home.
