HERKIMER-Richard R. Young "Rabbit" age 85, passed away peacefully on Friday morning, January 1, 2021, in the Abraham House in Rome. He was born on June 20, 1935 in Herkimer, son of the late Frederick V. and Florence Smith Young. A lifelong Herkimer resident he was a graduate of St. Francis deSales Parochial School. Richard worked as the Superintendent of Calvary Cemetery in Herkimer. He retired from the cemetery in 2000 after thirty years of dedicated service. Mr. Young had a strong belief in God and was a faithful member of Saint Francis deSales Church in Herkimer. Even in his retirement you were sure to find him working around the church and assisting the church pastor when needed. He also worked as a school crossing guard on Washington and Folts Street. He was a member of the Polish Community Home. To all who knew him he was a caring, trustworthy, sincere and helpful man with a good sense of humor. He will be truly missed by his many friends and family, especially by his longtime companion Barbara Zemzars. He is survived by several cousins in the valley and Sauquoitarea. Friends and relatives are invited to pay their respects from 10:00 until 11:00am at St Francis deSales Church on Friday. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated immediately after at 11:00 am in the church with the Reverend Mark Cunningham, pastor officiating. Interment in Calvary Cemetery will be later this spring at a time to be announced. Expressions of sympathy may be made with memorial donations to St Francis deSales Parish Center.
