RICHFIELD SPRINGS - Robert E. Boss, age 66, of County Route #25, passed away unexpectedly on Saturday evening May 10, 2008 in Mary Imogene Bassett Hospital. He had the comfort of his loving family at his side.
He was born on August 17, 1941 in Bridgewater, son of the late Howard and Anna Alberico Boss. A life long area resident, he was raised in Richfield Springs where he attended Richfield Springs High School. Due to the death of his father and in order to continue his familys business, at the age of sixteen, he left Richfield Springs High Schooland went to Auctioneers School in Mason City, Iowa. Upon graduation from Auctioneers School, he returned to Richfield Springs and continued his high school education and graduated with the class of 1961. After completing high school, he went on to SUNY at Cobleskill where he majored in accounting. An honorably discharged US Army veteran, he served during the Vietnam War.
On June 11, 1966 he was united in marriage with the former Jennie Richer in Saint Alphonsus Church in Tupper Lake. For fifty years, Mr. Boss owned and operated Boss Dairy Farms in Richfield Springs. He retired in 1986, but remained active helping his two sons with their businesses.
Mr. Boss was a member of Saint Josephs Church, Richfield Springs. Bob was an avid outdoorsman. He enjoyed hunting and was a member and past president of the Richfield Springs Sportsmans Club.
He will always be remembered as an honest, down to earth, strong-willed man. Any conversation with him was frank and to the point, but you could always feel a warmth and friendship whenever you were with him. He enjoyed having all of his family together, and teasing his grandchildren. He also enjoyed many hours operating his equipment. He will be truly missed by his many friends and family.
Surviving are his loving wife of forty one years, Jennie, a daughter, Lisa Bobnick and her husband, Kevin of Richfield Springs, two sons and their wives, Christopher and Susan Boss of Richfield Springs, Brian and Kimber Boss of Fort Mill, SC, two brothers, Richard and his wife Marie Boss of West Winfield, Gordon and his wife, Linda Boss of New Berlin, five sisters, Gertrude Boss of Herkimer, Laura Jochum and her husband, Werner of Apalachin, Dolores Greiner and her husband, Robert of Skaneateles, Alberta Todd of Tempe, AZ, Kay Darling and her husband, Wayne of Elbridge, eight grandchildren, Christian, Jonathan, Zachary, Damon, Stan, Cole, Clay and Molly, many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Funeral from J. Seaton McGrath Funeral Home, 40 West James Street, RichfieldSprings, on Wednesday at 9:30 am. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in Saint Josephs Church Richfield Springs at 10:00 am, with the Reverend Thomas Vail officiating. Interment will follow in Saint Josephs Cemetery. The family will be present in the funeral home to receive relatives and friends on Tuesday from 2:00 to 4:00 and 7:00 to 9:00 pm. Expressions of sympathy may be made with memorial donations to the Richfield Springs Emergency Rescue Squad or the Richfield Springs Volunteer Fire Department. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
