Obituary

MOHAWK - Robert L. Butterfield, Sr. (Bud) died on August 8, 2013 at home, with his wife Ella by his side. Bud was born on December 15, 1939 in Windsor, MA, the son of Robert and Dorothy Butterfield. After Roberts death in World War II, Dorothy married Earl Scott, who raised Bud as his son. Bud moved to Adams, MA in 1958 when he married his first wife, Patricia May (Ziemba), who died suddenly in 1979. Bud and Pat were actively involved in 4-H Club work throughout Berkshire County. He later married Ella Cardinal in Adams, MA.Bud was employed as a welder for Kelly Lumber, owned a cattle and sawdust trucking business, as well as dairy farms in both Adams, MA and Stark, NY. After Bud and Ella sold their beloved herd of Jersey cows, Bud spent many years working for the Herkimer CountyHighway Department. In retirement, he enjoyed creating and selling woodcrafts with Ella, as E-B Lawn Ornaments in Mohawk.. Bud is survived by his loving wife of 34 years, Ella (Cardinal), and his children: Bob and his wife, Liz of Brownington, VT; Tom and his wife Roxanne of South Dakota; Debbie Brewer and her husband, Jim of Newport Center, VT; Cindy McLain and her husband, Geoff of Clarksburg, MA and Kim Gardner and her husband, Ken of Mohawk, NY. He also leaves fifteen grandchildren: Patrick and his wife, Erica; Justin and his wife, Erin; Ethan, Christopher, David, Jim and his wife, Nicole; Kate and her husband, Ryan; Matt, Colin, Colleen, Lucas, Emily, Jered, Jeoal and Jerald, as well as eight great grandchildren; his sister, Barbara Whitaker and her children, Eddie and Becky; and lifelong friend Steve Jayko of Missouri. Besides his parents and his first wife, Patricia May (Ziemba), Bud was also predeceased by his close friend, John Proctor, of Jordanville. A graveside funeral service for Mr. Butterfield will be held in Cedarville Cemetery at a later time to be announced.Expressions of sympathy may be made with memorial donations to the Herkimer County Humane Society, H.A.L.O. or the 4-H Club. Funeral arrangements are with J. Seaton McGrath Funeral Home, Richfield Springs.
