EAST HERKIMER - Robert E. Fineout, 79, of Zoeller Avenue, passed away on Thursday afternoon, July 11, 2002, in Faxton Hospital, Utica. He was born on Aug. 26, 1923, in Little Falls, son of the late Robert Edward and Violet Lawyer Fineout. A lifelong area resident, he was educated in both St. Mary's Parochial School and Little Falls public schools. An honorably discharged U.S. Army veteran of World War II, he served in Northern France and the Rhineland. On June 19, 1948, he married the former Barbara Jean Ray in St. Francis de Sales Church, Herkimer. They have resided in East Herkimer since that time. For 22 years Bob worked for the New York State Division of Canals retiring in 1979. From 1981 to 1996 he worked for the Oak Hill Cemetery Association, where he took pride in maintaining the cemetery grounds. He was a parishioner of St. Francis de Sales Church, Herkimer. His leisure time was spent fishing and visiting with friends. He will be greatly missed by many. Surviving are his wife of 54 years, Barbara; a son, Wayne Edward and his wife Julie Fineout of Oppenheim; one daughter, Deborah Ann and her husband Douglas Walter of Rochester; four grandchildren, Danielle Marie Fineout of Oppenheim, Jason Robert Walter of Canandaigua and Melissa Anne Walter and Amanda Sue Walter, both of Rochester; several nieces, nephews, brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law. Besides his parents, Bob was preceded in death by a brother, Harold G. "Hod" Fineout in 1979. Funeral service will be on Monday at noon in Fenner Funeral Home Inc., 115 Court St., Herkimer. The Rev. Mark Cunningham, pastor of St. Francis de Sales Church, will officiate. Mr. Fineout will be then laid to rest with military honors in Oak Hill Cemetery. The family will be present in the funeral home to receive relatives and friends on Sunday from 4 until 8 p.m. Memorial donations may be made to the East Herkimer Volunteer Fire Department. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
