CHERRY VALLEY - Robert L. Kenyon age 77 of Gage School House Road passed away peacefully on Wednesday morning April 16, 2008 in Mary Imogene Basset Hospital, Cooperstown. He had the comfort of his loving family at his side.
He was born on May 20, 1930 in Franklin, son of the late Chauncey and Mabel Stone Kenyon. Bob was raised and educated first in Franklin Elementary School and later in Stalker High School in Stalker, PA. On September 21, 1954 he was united in marriage with the former Louise Duncan in West Winfield. A devoted union of forty-three years, she preceded him in death on December 20, 1997.
Mr. Kenyon was well known for building and selling sawmills. He originally owned and operated a dairy farm and saw mill in Cherry Valley until 1972. He then moved to Boonville where he started the Kenyon Saw Mill and several more saw mills in the North Country. He owned and operated the Boonville sawmill until 1982 when he returned to Cherry Valley, retiring in 1983.
Bob enjoyed mechanics and with his wife founded Papas Antique Engine Club. For eighteen years their collection of antique engines could be found at shows that they sponsored and at many county fairs for everyone to see.
To all who knew him they will always remember a sincere man with a down to earth manner. Any conversation with him was frank and to the point but you felt a warmth and friendship whenever you were with him. He will be greatly missed.
Surviving are his son Robert and his wife Sharlene Kenyon of Boonville, five daughters, Josephine LaRock and her husband Matthew of Vernon Center, Eloise Grimm and her companion Rick Gallagher of Lyons, Elizabeth Platt and her husband Robert of Boonville, Virginia Rogers and her husband Rodney of Cherry Valley, Marian Santoro of Middlefield, his dear companion Georgia Tuttle, two brothers, Raymond Kenyon of PA, Jimmy Kenyon of KY, four sisters, Ethel Shoinski, Sally Rake, Gladys LaBarre all of PA, Dorothy Rich of Cherry Valley, nineteen grandchildren including his companions grandchildren, Kristalene and Harold Stiltson Jr., seventeen great grandchildren, many nieces, nephews and cousins. Besides his parents and wife Louise he was predeceased by two grandchildren, Baby Boy Santoro in 1996, Howard Robert Grimm in 1980, three brothers, Daniel, Chauncey and Donald Kenyon.
Funeral service will be on Friday at 2:00 pm in J. Seaton McGrath Funeral Home, 40 West James Street, Richfield Springs. The Reverend John Young and Pastor Alan Miller will officiate. Interment will follow in Schuyler Lake Cemetery. The family will be present in the funeral home to receive relatives and friends on Friday two hours prior to the funeral service (12:00 noon until 2:00 pm). Expressions of sympathy may be made with memorial donations to the American Cancer Society. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
