HERKIMER-Robert Lee Reitz age 93 of Nasypany Road passed away peacefully on Friday morning January 25, 2013 in Valley Health Services Inc.
He was born on February 10, 1919 in Dayton, Pennsylvania, son of the late Martin and Mary Agnes Hawk Reitz. A lifelong area resident he was raised and educated in Fairfield and Middleville schools. An honorably discharged US Navy veteran he served his country proudly during World War II.
On October 12, 1940 he was united in marriage with the former Edna M. Lowell in the First Baptist Church, Herkimer. For twenty-five years Bob worked for the Chicago Pneumatic Company in Utica. He retired in 1975 as a General Foreman.
Mr. Reitz had a strong faith in God and was a member of the First Baptist Church, Herkimer. At one time he was active with the Boy Scouts of America and was Scout Master of Troop # 22 Herkimer. He was also a member of Olive Branch Lodge # 40 Free and Accepted Masons. In his younger he was an avid snowmobiler and had taught snowmobiling safety courses.
To all who knew him he will always be remembered for his down to earth manner and his ability to help anyone in need while looking for nothing in return. He will be greatly missed.
Surviving are his loving wife of seventy-two years Edna, one son Wayne Reitz and his wife Prapai of Herkimer six grandchildren, many great grandchildren, several nieces, nephews and cousins. Besides his parents he was preceded in death by an infant son Robert Reitz, two daughters, Karen Ann Reitz in 1961, Claire Stella Hilts in 2001, four brothers and nine sisters.
A graveside service with military honors for Mr. Reitz will take place later this spring in Mountain View Memorial Gardens, town of Little Falls at a time to be announced.
