HERKIMER Robert Richer, age 63, of 690 West German Street, passed away peacefully on Thursday morning, March 1, 2012, at Valley Health Services, Inc., after an extended illness. He was born on January 4, 1949, in Herkimer, son of the late John W. and Dorothy Trautner Richer. A lifelong area resident, he was raised and educated in Herkimer. Mr. Richer had worked as a machinist for the Remington Arms Company in Ilion. In his leisure time, he enjoyed hunting, fishing, working on stock cars, as well as racing stock cars. Bob will always be remembered as being a good natured man who, in spite of life's setbacks, handled them with courage and dignity. He was agood friend to many and will never be forgotten. Surviving him are two sons, Robert Richer, Jr., of OH, and Chad Richer, of Herkimer; a daughter, Melissa, of New Hartford; three brothers, William Richer and his wife, Fay, of East Herkimer, Ralph Richer and his wife, Carol, of Gloversville, and Edward Richer and his companion, Vicky, of Salisbury, NC; two sisters, Barbara Richer, of FL, and Tina Stanley and her husband, James, of Salisbury, NC; a special aunt, Barbara Richer, of East Herkimer; several grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. At Mr. Richer's request, funeral service and interment will be private and at the convenience of the family. Funeral arrangements are with Fenner Funeral Home Inc., Herkimer.
