RICHFIELD SPRINGS - Robert G. Stehlik, 71 of County Highway 24 passed away on Sunday Evening February 9, 2003 in Valley Health services, Inc., Herkimer.
He was born July 16, 1931 a son of the late George and Louise Kosina Stehlik in Flushing Queens. Robert was raised and educated in Astoria and a graduate of Long Island City High School.
He was an honorably discharged U.S. Air Force Veteran serving during the Korean War from 1952 to 1954; he achieved the rank of Airman second class upon the time of his discharge. After returning from the Air Force Mr. Stehlik went to work for the New York Telephone Company for over thirty years retiring in 1989.
Robert was a member of the Telephone Pioneers of America and a member of the Richfield Springs Veterans Club. He was a past president and member of the DA Sokol Club in Astoria, this is where he met his future wife June Hendl. Robert and June were married in Manhattan in 1957; they shared a blessed and loving union for forty-six years. They lived in Astoria, Queens until 1998 when they moved to Richfield Springs.
Robert was a loving and caring man who enjoyed making people laugh; he happiest when he was with his family and friends especially his grandchildren.
Surviving him, besides his wife June of forty-six years is a son Frank Stehlik and his wife Helen of Mt. Hope, a daughter; Ann Louise Santiago and her husband Michael of Ridgewood, Queens, a brother George Stehlik of Sidney Center, two granddaughters Emily and Sarah Stehlik and one grandson Matthew Santiago. Also surviving are several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
A funeral service will take place on Tuesday at 7:00pm in J. Seaton McGrath Funeral Home 40 West James Street, Richfield Springs, with the Reverend William Harkins, Pastor of the Church of Christ Uniting, officiating. The Family will be present in the funeral home to receive friends and relatives on Tuesday from 4:00 to 7:00pm. Interment to take place in St. Michaels Cemetery in Astoria, Queens, at a time convenient to the family.
Memorial donations may be made to the DA Sokol Club or the Telephone Pioneers of America, envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
