Obituary

FRANKFORT-Robert Charles Van Horne Sr. age 80, passed away peacefully after an extended illness on Tuesday morning August 10, 2021 at the Abraham House in Rome. He was born on May 24, 1941, in Herkimer, son of the late Gerald E. and Dorothy M. Hasler VanHorne. A lifelong area resident he was educated in Mohawk, Rome and Clinton Schools. On August 29, 1964, he was united in marriage to the former Linda Sweeney in the First Baptist Church, Herkimer. They made their home in Clark Mills until 1984 when they moved to Frankfort. For twenty six years he worked as a Psychiatric Aide at the Marcy State Hospital. Mr. Van Horne had a strong belief in God and was a member of the Redeemer Church in Utica. Bob had a special spot in his heart for animals and was a member of the 4PetSake Food Pantry Inc. in Mohawk. He also enjoyed volunteering at the Herkimer County Humane Society. Mr. Van Horne was happiest when he was with his friends and family especially his four cherished grandchildren. He will be sadly missed. Surviving him are his devoted wife of fifty-six years, Linda, two sons and their wives, Robert C. Van Horne Jr. and Tammy of Forestport, Jeremy Van Horne and Kathy Van Horne of Frankfort, a daughter Kathy and Ed Gomolka of Forestport. Four grandchildren, Owen, Lucas and Alanna Van Horne, Mark Gomolka, two cousins Jodi and Jack Zilske, several nieces and nephews. Besides his parents he was preceded in death by two brothers David and Charles Van Horne. Funeral service and interment will be private and at the convenience of his family.
