Obituary

RICHFIELD SPRINGS Robert W. Woodrow, Sr. age 92, of Union Street, passed away unexpectedly on Saturday night, December 21, 2002, in Bassett Healthcare, Cooperstown. He was surrounded with the comfort and love of his wife and son at his passing. Robert was born on September 29, 1910, In Yonkers, son of the late Robert and Emily Woods Woodrow. In 1917 his family moved to Milford where he was raised and educated. On April 17, 1937, he married Mildred Jackson in Milford. For forty years he was a self-employed cabinetmaker carpenter, retiring in 1975. Mr. Woodrow had a strong belief in God and was an active member of the Garrattsville Presbyterian Church. He served as a church Elder and did many of the refurbishing projects at the church until he moved to Richfield Springs, in 1988. He was currently a member of the Church of Christ Uniting, Richfield Springs. A volunteer firefighter he was the last living charter member of the Garrattsville Volunteer Fire Department. In his leisure time he loved to play dominoes. When he was younger he was an avid fisherman and hunter. He always kept busy with projects around his home and also enjoyed helping his neighbors. To those who knew him, he will be truly missed. Surviving are his wife of sixty-five years, Mildred; one son, Robert W. Woodrow, Jr. and his wife Margaret of Richfield Springs; four grandchildren, Robert Joseph and his wife Carrie Woodrow of Hawaii, Jane Catherine Smith and her husband Chance of Camden, NC, Emily J. Woodrow of Portland, OR, Peter James Woodrow of Richfield Springs, two great grandchildren, Kaylynn and Weston Smith, several nieces, nephews and two cousins. Besides his parents two brothers, Samuel and Gordon Woodrow, preceded him in death. Funeral service will be on Friday evening at 7:00 p.m. in the Church of Christ Uniting, Richfield Springs. The Reverend William Harkins, pastor will officiate. Mr. Woodrow will be laid to rest in Butternut Valley Cemetery, Garrattsville next spring. The family will be present in J. Seaton McGrath Funeral Home, 40 West James Street, Richfield Springs to receive relatives and friends on Friday, afternoon from 2:00 until 4:00 p.m. Memorial donations may be made to the Garrattsville Presbyterian Church or the Church of Christ Uniting, Richfield. Envelopes are available at the funeral home.
