BARNEVELD - Rodney Engstrom, 79, of Mappa Avenue, passed away peacefully Saturday afternoon, Oct. 26, 2002, in the Lutheran Home, Clinton.
He was born Aug. 17, 1923, in Chandlers Valley, Pa., son of the late George and Ada Peterson Engstrom. Rodney was raised in Chandlers Valley and graduated from Sugar Grove High School. He then went on to graduate from Pennsylvania State University.
On Feb. 11, 1950, he married Jeanne Hildreth in Syracuse. Mr. Engstrom had worked for the Dairylea Co. in Utica and was plant manager of the Borden Ice Cream Co. in Syracuse. He retired in 1995.
He had a strong belief in God and lived a devoted Episcopal life. He was a member of Grace Episcopal Church, Utica. His joy and relaxation was singing. He was a member of the Grace Episcopal Church choir and the Society for the Preservation of Barber Shop Quartets of America.
All that knew him will remember his warm friendly manner. He will never be forgotten.
Surviving are his wife of 52 years, Jeanne; two sons, Timothy Engstrom and his partner Lara Kuhn of Bloomfield and Matthew and his wife Anna Alm Engstrom of Gastonia, N.C.; one daughter, Linda Johnson and her husband John of Barneveld; one sister, Doris Curran of Franklyn, Pa.; three grandchildren, Jennifer Learned of Barneveld, M. Cody Engstrom and Ashley Engstrom, both of Gastonia, N.C..; several nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, a brother, Roger Engstrom, preceded him in death.
A Celebration of Life with Holy Eucharist will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. in Grace Episcopal Church, Utica. The Rev. James Jensen, rector, will officiate.
The family requests donations in Mr. Engstrom's memory be made to the Grace Episcopal Church, Utica as an alternative to flowers.
Funeral arrangements are with Fenner Funeral Home Inc., Herkimer.
