EAST HERKIMER – Roger L. Blum, age 88, passed away peacefully on Friday, February 7, 2025, at Alpine Nursing Home in Little Falls. He was born on September 20, 1936, a son, of the late Herman A. and Catherine (Gibson) Blum. On August 17, 1957, he was united in marriage to Carol Lowell. They were married for sixty-four years until her passing in 2021. Roger was raised and educated in Herkimer. He served in the US Army from 1953-1956. During his military service he was stationed in Germany and France. Upon his honorable discharge he served in the National Guards from 1953 until 1964. Roger worked with the Herkimer County Highway Department as a truck driver, retiring in 2000.
He led a full life and spent much of his leisure time out in the woods, skiing, hunting and snow shoeing. Roger enjoyed his family and was happiest when spending time with them.
Surviving him are three sons and their wives, Scott and Annette Blum, Keith and Christina Blum all of Herkimer, Mark and L'Annette Blum of Ilion, one daughter, Darlene and her husband Dale Brewer of Herkimer. Twelve grandchildren, several great-grandchildren, sister-in-law Carol Blum and many nieces, nephews and cousins. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife Carol, his son Jamie Blum, his twin brother Richard and his brother Jeremy.
A graveside service with military honors will take place on May 21st, at 11:30am in Oak Hill Cemetery, Herkimer with the Reverend Joelle Faulks, pastor of the First United Methodist Church, Herkimer officiating.
