HERKIMER - Ronald F. Mackin "Rocky" age 64 of Prospect Street passed away on Thursday June 19, 2008 in Albany Medical Center.He had the comfort of his loving family at his side.
He was born on February 17, 1944 in Utica, son of Carrie Guido Mackin and the late Leo B. Mackin.A lifelong area resident, he was raised and educated in Richfield Springs. After high school he enlisted in the US Marine Corps and proudly served his country during the Vietnam Era. He was honorably discharged in February of 1966.
Rocky had worked as a truck driver for Suburban Energy Corporation and in more recent years was the night supervisor at the Prospect Hotel in Herkimer.
Mr. Mackin was an avid sports fan and followed all sporting events, especially baseball and horseracing. Rocky also enjoyed boxing and found great pleasure in volunteering as a boxing coach in Herkimer.
To those who knew him they will always remember his warm smile and good nature.He will be greatly missed.
Surviving are his beloved mother Carrie of Rochester, his very special friend of many years, Peggy Scuse of Herkimer, two sisters, Annette Mackin and her husband Gary Bagley, Maria Mackin and her husband David Carter all of Rochester, two brothers and their wives, Leo and Catherine Mackin, Brian and Helene Mackin all of Richfield Springs, several nieces, nephews, cousins and his extended family.
Funeral fromJ. Seaton McGrath Funeral Home, 40 West James Street, RichfieldSprings on Tuesday at 10:30 am. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in St Josephs Church Richfield Springs at 11:00 am. The Reverend Thomas Vail will officiate. Interment with military honors provided by the Richfield Springs American Legion Honor Guard will follow in St Josephs Cemetery.The family will be present in the funeral home to receive relatives and friends on Monday from 4:00 until 7:00 pm.Expressions of sympathy may be made with memorial donations to the Richfield Springs American Legion Honor Guard Unit, in care of PO Box 686, Richfield Springs, NY 13439.Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.Members of Richfield Springs American Legion Post # 616 are asked to meet at the funeral home at 6:30 pm on Monday for ritualistic services.
