Obituary

HERKIMER-Ronald Wellington age 75 of Lake Street, passed away on Wednesday morning March 23, 2011 in Saint Elizabeths Medical Center, Utica. He was born on November 24, 1935 in Herkimer, son of the late John and Mary Nabinger Wellington. A lifelong Herkimer resident he was a graduate of Herkimer High School, class of 1954. In 1958 he entered the US Army at Fort Knox, KY where he served in the Armored Division. He was honorably discharged in 1960, attaining the rank of Corporal. On September 2, 1961 he was united in marriage with the former Alice I. Herringshaw in the First United Methodist Church, Herkimer. For twenty-one years he was employed by Local Union # 35 Utica as a construction laborer, retiring in 1989. Mr. Wellington attended the First United Methodist Church in Ilion. For many years he was an active league bowler and was a member of the Herkimer Grange when it existed. In his leisure time he enjoyed playing cards with his many friends. He also liked to travel and looked forward to his annual trip to Las Vegas with his brother-in-law, Bob. Ron will always be remembered as caring, friendly man with a great sense of humor and unforgettable smile. He will be greatly missed. Surviving besides his loving wife of forty-nine years Alice, are two sons, Daniel James Wellington and his wife Sherry of East Herkimer, Scott Wellington of Herkimer, two daughters, Ronda Wellington of Herkimer, Jenny Lynn Tripple and her husband Steven of Schuyler, one brother, Gerald Wellington of Little Falls, a sister-in-law, Betty Wellington, eight grandchildren, Brett, Shawn, and Joseph Wellington, Josh and Jessica Ray Sweeten, Amanda Tripple, Leea Doris Tripple and Shannon Jane Tripple, several nieces, nephews and cousins along with several Herringshaw brothers and sisters-in-law. Besides his parents he was preceded in death by four brothers, Robert, John, Glenn and Phillip Wellington, three sisters, Betty Jane Scanlon, Beatrice Wellington and Rita Fudjack and one grandson John Joseph Wellington. Funeral service will be on Sunday at 3:30 pm in Fenner Funeral Home Inc., 115 Court Street; Herkimer. The Reverend Robert Wollaber, Pastor of Morning Star Ministries will officiate. Interment with military honors will take place later this spring in Oak Hill Cemetery at a time to be announced. The family will be present in the funeral home to receive relatives and friends on Saturday from 2:00 to 4:00 and 7:00 until 9:00 pm. Expressions of sympathy may be made with memorial donations to Alice Wellington for a charity of her choosing. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
