HERKIMER – Ronald R. "Mutt" Young, age 83, passed away peacefully on Friday, October 7, 2022 at Faxton-St. Luke's Medical Center, New Hartford. He was born on July 4, 1939 in Tupper Lake the son of the late Chester and Helen (Duso)Young. Raised and educated in Ilion, he graduated from Ilion High School. On November 15, 1969, he was united in marriage to Norma Laymon. They shared a devoted union of forty-two years until her passing on September 27, 2011. For many years ​Ron had worked security for Chicago Pneumatic, Utica College and part time for the Ilion Police Department. He was a "true blue", avid Yankee and Giants even in their lean years. In his younger days he coached little league baseball in Mohawk and Ilion. A kind man with a big smile, he was a loyal friend, never having a bad word to say about anyone or anything. His family was his life and he enjoyed the time spent with them. He will be fondly missed by those he loved. Surviving are 2 sons, Steven Scott and his wife Pamela Laymonof Venice, Fl, Kevin Laymon and Susan of Ilion, 2 daughters, Carol Naugle and John of Rome, Kristen McManus and her husband David of East Herkimer, 11 grandchildren, Stephanie, Christopher, Bummer, Janice, Colleen, Pam, Travis, Brittany, Kyle, Sierra and Kelsey, 19 great-grandchildren, and 3 great-great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and cousins. Calling hours will be held on Thurs, Oct. 13th from 5-7 pm in Fenner Funeral Home Inc. 115 Court St, Herkimer A prayer service will follow in the funeral home at 7:00pm.
