Obituary

RICHFIELD SPRINGS - Rosa I. Gorney age 95 of Main Street, passed away on Friday morning June 2, 2006 in Charles T. Sitrin Home, New Hartford. She had the comfort of her loving family at her side. She was born on March 16, 1911 in Cohassett, MA, daughter of the late Ernest and Elizabeth Moody Isenor. A lifelong Richfield Springs resident she was a graduate of Knox School in Cooperstown. On October 3, 1938 she married Alfred M. Gorney in Saint Johns Episcopal Church, Richfield Springs. A loving and devoted union of forty-five years Mr. Gorney preceded her in death in 1983. A Real Estate Broker for thirty years, Mrs. Gorney had operated the Richfield Springs branch of the United Farm Agency and later owned and operated the Richfield Reality. She retired in 1985. Rosa also had owned and operated the Blue Star Tourist Home which later became the Red Maple Tourist Home. Mrs. Gorney had a strong belief in God and was a member of Saint Johns Episcopal Church, Richfield Springs. Her entire life revolved around her family and business. She was artistic and much of her leisure time was spent sewing, crocheting and painting pictures. To all who knew her, nothing can detract from the down to earth manner that flowed from her character. Any conversation with her was frank and to the point. But yet you could sense a warmth and friendship whenever you were with her. She will be truly missed. Surviving are a son, Alfred M. Gorney Jr. and his wife Mary of New Hartford, one daughter Francess and her husband Richard Wright of Richfield Springs, four grandchildren, Richard Wright Jr. and his wife Beate of Clifton, VA, Susanne Smith and her husband Bradley of Richfield Springs, Christine Derhak and her husband Kevin of Londonderry, NH, Michele Gorney of Exton, PA, eight great grandchildren, Katrina and Erika Wright, Benjamin and Rebecca Smith, Kelsey, John, Caty and Robert Derhak, several nieces, nephews and cousins. Besides her parents and husband Alfred she was predeceased by a brother Ernest Isenor and a sister Jeannie Bennett. A Service of the Burial Office will celebrated on Saturday June 10, 2006 at 12:00 noon in J. Seaton McGrath Funeral Home, 40 West James Street, Richfield Springs. The Reverend John Dixon Bartle, Rector of Saint Johns Episcopal Church, Richfield Springs will officiate. The family will be present in the funeral home to receive relatives and friends on Saturday one hour prior to the funeral service (11:00 until 12:00 noon).
