RICHFIELD SPRINGS - Rose M. Geywits age 92 formerly of Millstone Road and currently of Main Street Delhi, passed away on Tuesday evening November 4, 2008 in OConnor Hospital in Delhi.
She was born on September 18, 1916 in East Herkimer, daughter of the late Charles and Josephine Herkel Lucas. A lifelong area resident she was raised and educated in Herkimer. On August 3, 1941 she was united in marriage with Stewart J. Geywits in Richfield Springs. They shared a loving and devoted union of sixty-four years until his passing on April 17, 2005. Rose and Stewart had made their home and raised their family in the town Warren.
For many years Mrs. Geywits worked in Richfield Springs, first for the Curcio Motel and later in later years for the Richfield Springs Pennysaver, retiring in 1971. She moved to Delhi in 2007 and has resided with her son Ronald and his wife.
Rose had a strong belief in God and led a devoted Christian life. Until moving to Delhi, she regularly attended the Church of Christ United in Richfield Springs. She was a member of the Warren Grange and Home Bureau. To all who knew they will remember a loving caring and hopeful person who was happiest when she was with her many friends and family especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She will be greatly missed.
Surviving are two sons, Ronald Geywits and his wife Barbara of Delhi, Robert Geywits of Burlington Flats, three grandchildren, James Geywits and his wife Vanessa of Richfield Springs, Jason Geywits and his fiance Brooke of Garrettsville, Christopher Geywits of Richfield Springs, three great grandchildren, Hunter Geywits, Thomas Geywits and Rhiannon Geywits along with nieces and nephews. Besides her parents and husband Stewart she was preceded in death a son, Lawrence Geywits in 1953 and a brother, Joseph Lucas.
Funeral service will be on Saturday at 11:00 am in J. Seaton McGrath Funeral Home; 40 West James Street, Richfield Springs. The Reverend Arthur Miner, Pastor of the Church of Christ Uniting Richfield Springs will officiate. Interment will follow in Springfield Center Cemetery. The family will be present in the funeral home to receive relatives and friends on Saturday one hour prior to the funeral service (10:00 to 11:00 am).
