Obituary

RICHFIELD SPRINGS - Rose Mary Hugick, 85, of William Street, entered into eternal rest after a long illness Friday evening, April 18, 2003, in Bassett Healthcare, Cooperstown. She was born July 22, 1917, in New York City, daughter of the late Joseph and Magdalena Lamasz Bednarz. Rose Mary was raised and educated in New York City public schools. On Jan. 30, 1937, she married Michael J. Hugick in New York. It was the same year that she and her husband came to Richfield Springs and McKoons Crossing. For 22 years they owned and operated their dairy farm on Butternut Road, then moving to William Street in the village where they have resided since. For a number of years Mrs. Hugick worked for the Shurkatch Corp. in Richfield Springs.Mrs. Hugick had a strong belief in God and led a devoted Catholic life. She was a member of Saint Joseph's Church, Richfield Springs, and the Rosary Altar Society. She was happiest when she was surrounded by her many friends and family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.Surviving are her husband of 66 years, Michael; two sons, Andrew and his wife Nancy Hugick and Robert Hugick and his special friend Erin; two daughters, Loretta and her husband Kenneth Wilson and Rosemary Hugick, all of Richfield Springs; eight grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; one great-great grandchild; several nieces and nephews.Besides her parents, three sisters, Sylvia Gosk, Josephine Yurgal and Emelia Klimowich and a brother, Joseph Bednarz, preceded her in death.Funeral will be from J. Seaton McGrath Funeral Home, 40 West James St., Richfield Springs on Wednesday at 9:30 a.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in Saint Joseph's Church, Richfield Springs at 10 a.m. The Rev. Terence Healy will officiate. Mrs. Hugick will be laid to rest in St. Joseph's Cemetery.The family will be present in the funeral home to receive relatives and friends on Tuesday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m.Expressions of sympathy may be made to the Richfield Springs Volunteer Fire Department or Saint Joseph's Church. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
