RICHFIELD SPRINGS - Roselyn Laura King, age 95 of River St, passed away peacefully on Monday April 4, 2011, at Folts Homes with her family at her side.
A daughter of the late Percy B. and Lora Mae Crandall Budlong, she was born on July 30, 1915 in the town of Minden. A lifelong area resident, she was a graduate of Richfield Springs High School class of 1929. She continued her education at Oneonta where she received her normal school certificate in kindergarten and elementary education in 1937, receiving her Bachelors of Science in 1954 and Masters Degree in 1961 also from Oneonta. She taught in one room school houses and for 23 years at Mount Markham Central School in West Winfield, before retiring in the late 1970s.
On February 12, 1938, she was united in marriage to Howard M. King in Syracuse. The shared a loving and devoted union of forty-nine years until his passing on January 30, 1987. Roselyn had many diversified interests including poetry writing, photography, collecting dolls, hatpins, antiques, camping, fishing and motorcycling riding with her husband.Together they helped form two motorcycle clubs, The Richfield Springs Saddle Pals and the Moonlight Patrol.
She was a devoted member of the Church of Christ Uniting, the Richfield Springs Lioness and helped formulate the Richfield Springs Senior Center.
Surviving are three daughters, Beverly Riedel and her husband Wayne, of Rome, Carolyn DeMauro and her husband Claude of Germantown, Tricia Collins-Hysell and her husband Bill Hysell of Frankfort, granddaughter Dr. Lori Collins-Hall of Oneonta, great-grandchildren , Katelynn and Jennifer Hall, Olivia and Brandon Stella, several nieces and nephews.Besides her parents and husband Howard, she was preceded in death by her beloved granddaughter, Marcia Lynn Stella and two brothers, three sisters, nieces and nephews.
Funeral Service will be on Thursday at 11:00 am in the Church of Christ Uniting, Richfield Springs.Calling hours in J. Seaton McGrath Funeral Home, 40 West James Street, Richfield Springs, will be on Wednesday evening from 4:00 -7:00 p.m.
Memorial donations may be made to the Church of Christ Uniting or St. Jude Childrens Research Hospital.Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
