Obituary

BURLINGTON FLATS-Rosetta Duncan, age 79, passed away peacefully on Tuesday morning, May 26, 2015, after a long illness. She had the comfort of her loving family at her side. She was born on May 28, 1935, in Grand Gorge, daughter of the late Osmer and Hazel Whispell Mondore. Rosetta was raised in Grand Gorge and was educated in Hobart Public Schools. On December 20, 1951 she was united in marriage with Edward Duncan, Jr. They shared a devoted union of fifty-one years until his passing on November 19, 2003. They made their home in South Columbia before moving to the town of Exeter in 1968. A truly remarkable woman, Rosetta raised a family of seven children while helping her husband Ed operate his farm. Mrs. Duncan had a strong faith in God and was of the Methodist faith. In her leisure time she enjoyed board games and playing cards. She looked forward to her annual trip to the Cobleskill Sunshine Fair to play "I Got It" with her sister Jenny. To those who knew her she was happiest when she was surrounded by her many friends and family. She will be sadly missed. Surviving her are four sons, Edward Duncan and his wife Janet, William Duncan all of Burlington Flats, Earl Duncan and his wife Laurie of Bridgewater, James Duncan and his companion Peggy Zvirzdin of Schuyler Lake, three daughters, Rosemary Oldick of Palatine Bridge, Elizabeth Walsh of Mohawk, Betty Schermerhorn and her companion Barry Abrams of Richfield Springs, one brother, William Mondore of Hobart, a sister, Jenny Collins of Schenevus, eighteen grandchildren, thirty-three great grandchildren, two great-great grandchildren, many nieces, nephews and cousins. Besides her parents and husband Edward she was predeceased by three brothers, Gerald, Hanford and Glenn Mondore, two sisters, Rosemary Mondore and Margaret Beardsley, two grandchildren, Jerry Duncan and Loretta Lynn Duncan. Calling hours for Mrs. Duncan will be on Friday from 12:00 noon until 2:00 pm in J. Seaton McGrath Funeral Home, 40 West James Street; Richfield Springs. Funeral service will take place immediately after at 2:00 pm in the funeral home with the Reverend Alan Miller officiating. Interment will follow in Schuyler Lake Cemetery. Expressions of sympathy may be made with memorial donations to the Catskill Area Hospice. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home. Calling Hours J.
