HERKIMER-Rozell F. Cool, 65, of Bellinger Avenue, passed away unexpectedly on Thursday February 15, 2001 in Little Falls Hospital.
He was born on March 27, 1935 in Herkimer, son of the late Rozell L. and Alta Scanlon Cool. Rozell was raised in Herkimer and was a graduate of Herkimer High School. In 1953 he entered the United States Army where he proudly served in both Korea and Vietnam. After a twenty-year career he was honorably discharged with the rank of Sergeant First Class. From 1973 to 1982 he worked as a civilian for the Toby Hanna Army Depot. He returned to Herkimer in 1983 to take the position of Security Chief for Herkimer Tool & Machine Company retiring in 1987. Mr. Cool was currently employed with Collis Hardware Store, Herkimer. On January 16, 1998 he married Collene Bertrand in New Hartford.
Rozell had a strong love for God and Country. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church Herkimer, a member of Michael Pliseck VFW Post # 4915, Herkimer and the American Legion Post # 38, Herkimer.
Surviving besides his loving wife Collene, are seven daughters, Margaret and her husband Dana Muzzy of Herkimer, Vera Abbott and Dorothy Cool both of Ft. Plain, Andrea L. Cool of Duryea, PA, Susan and her husband Ryan Toole, Brianne and Kimberlee Godlewski of Herkimer; two brothers and their wives, Leslie and Marie Cool of Mohawk, William and Sally Cool of Phoenix, AZ; a father-in-law and his wife George and Lydia Bertrand of New Hartford; his mother-in-law and her husband Carol and Bill Bruso of Ilion; five grandchildren, several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers Douglas and Louis Cool. His sister Elaine Culver passed away on February 16, 2001.
Funeral service will take place on Monday at 9:00 a.m. in FENNER FUNERAL HOME Inc., 115 Court Street, Herkimer. The Reverend William Otis, pastor of the First United Methodist Church Herkimer will officiate. Interment with full military honors will be conducted later this spring in Oak Hill Cemetery. The family will be present in the funeral home to receive relatives and friends Sunday from 2:00 4:00 and 7:00 9:00 p.m.
Memorial donations may be made to First United Methodist Church Herkimer. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
Members of the Michael Pliseck VFW Post #4915 are asked to meet at the funeral home on Sunday evening for services at 7:30 p.m.
