Obituary

HERKIMER-Rudolph M. Schrader Jr. age 83, passed away on Monday evening December 2, 2013, in Faxton-Saint Lukes Medical Center, New Hartford. He had the comfort and support of his loving family at his side. He was born on July 26, 1930, in Herkimer, son of the late Rudolph M. and Minnie Schulenberg Schrader. A lifelong Herkimer resident he was a graduate of Herkimer High School. An honorably discharged US Navy veteran he served during the Korean War. On August 2, 1952 he was united in marriage with the former Joyce A. Weber in the First United Methodist Church Herkimer. They made their home and raised their family in Herkimer. For thirty-seven years he worked for the New York State Thruway Authority, retiring in 1985 with the position of Supervisor. Mr. Schrader had a strong faith in God and was a member of the Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, Herkimer. In his leisure time he enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping and bowling. He was an avid softball player and played in the Under Forty Softball League which later became the Under Fifty Softball League. Rudy was a member of the East Pond Fish and Game Club, the East Herkimer Fish and Game Club and the Herkimer County Volunteer Firemens Association. To all who knew him they will never forget a caring, straight forward gentleman. Any conversation with him was straight and to the point yet you always felt a warmth and friendship whenever you were with him. He will be truly missed by his many friends and family especially his cherished grandchildren and great grandchildren. Surviving are his devoted wife of sixty-one years Joyce, one son Rudolph J. Schrader and his wife Kimberly of Mohawk, two daughters, Rebecca George of Cazenovia, Susan Schrader of Ilion, three brothers Ivan Schrader of Herkimer, Allen Schrader and his wife Karen of Little Falls, Harold Schrader and his wife Mary of Chelais, WA, five sisters Beverly Weber, Patricia Smith both of Herkimer, Janice Butler and her husband Jack of Newport, Joyce Casale and her husband Tony of Mohawk, Armeda LaBreche and her husband Roger of Herkimer, five grandchildren, Nicole McLean and her husband James of Cazenovia, Jenna Macri and her husband Brian of Herkimer, Ashley Crandall of Ravena, Luke Schrader of Mohawk, Kyle Crandall and his wife Jenna of Herkimer, six great-grandchildren, Hanna, Zoe, Lauren, Brian Jr., Ava, Presley, several nieces, nephews, and cousins. Besides his parents he was preceded in death by an infant brother Richard Schrader. A Funeral Service will be held on Friday at 11:00 am in Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, Herkimer. Reverend Ann Zimmerman, pastor will officiate. Interment with military honors will follow in Oak Hill Cemetery. The family will be present to receive relatives and friends in Fenner Funeral Home, Inc., 115 Court Street, Herkimer on Thursday from 2:00 to 4:00 and 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. Memorial donations may be made to the American Lung Association, or a charity of choice. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
