HERKIMER-Ruth A. Bernier age 85 of 104 North Washington Street, formerly of the Guy Prindle Apartments, Ilion passed away on Thursday evening July 5, 2012 in Folts Home.
She was born on June 18, 1927 in West Exeter, daughter of the late Lee and Martha Getman Bouton. A lifelong area resident she was a graduate of Mohawk High School. On February 15, 1947 she was united in marriage with Richard G. Bernier in Saint Francis deSales Church, Herkimer. They shared a blessed union of forty-seven years until his passing on December 30, 1994. Ruth had a strong faith in God and was a member of Saint Francis deSales Church, Herkimer.
Mrs. Bernier was a devoted wife, mother and homemaker. She was the one they could always count on whether it was in good times or bad she was always there for them. In her leisure time she enjoyed making ceramics, doing crafts, writing ,canning and selling Tupperware.. But her greatest joy was the family gatherings. She found great delight in being surrounded by her friends and family especially her cherished grandchildren and great grandchildren. She will be greatly missed.
She is survived by four sons, Daniel Bernier and his wife Donna of Greenville, TN,, Richard Rick Bernier and his wife Kim of Frankfort, Thomas Bernier and his wife Florine of Mohawk, Christopher Bernier and his wife Cristy of Norway, two daughters Sharon Bernier Randt and her fianc Tom Ingersoll, Bonnie Leon and her husband Terry all of Ilion, a brother Eugene Bouton of TX, three sisters, Florence Denning of PA. Beatrice Hool of Pa, Janet Allen of Newport, twenty-three grandchildren, twenty-three great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins. Besides her parents and husband Richard she was preceded in death by four brothers, Robert, Theodore, , David and James Bouton, a sister, Helen Luchouk and two grandsons, Craig Bernier and Zachary Andrea.
Funeral from Fenner Funeral Home Inc., 115 Court Street; Herkimer on Monday at 10:30 am. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in Saint Francis deSales Church, Herkimer at 11:00 am. The Reverend Mark Cunningham, Pastor will officiate. Interment will follow in Calvary Cemetery. The family will be present to receive relatives and friends in the funeral home on Sunday from 5:00 until 8:00 pm.
