Obituary

HERKIMER-Ruth R. Morse age 93 formerly of Steuben Road and more recently at the home of her daughter Dawn L. Olmstead in Clinton, passed away peacefully on Monday morning May 14, 2012 in the Masonic Care Community, Utica. She was born on September 22, 1918 in Utica, daughter of the late Stewart Charles and Ruth Elizabeth Pritchard Rogers. Ruth was raised and educated in Oaksville. She went on to graduate from Cooperstown High School. She continued her education at the Mary Imogene Bassett School of Nursing where she received her Licensed Practical Nursing Certification. Ruth first worked at the Mary Imogene Bassett, Eaton Infirmary and for fourteen at the Loretto Geriatric Center in Utica. She retired in 1989. Mrs. Morse was first married to Eugene Hoke who died in 1977 she then married August Joseph Zigon who preceded her in death in 1982 and later to Derwood C. Morse who passed away in 1987. It was in 1987 that she moved to Herkimer and there she became the devoted companion of Herbert Parks. Mr. Parks died on February 18, 2002. It was in 2006 that she moved to Clinton and has remained there since. Mrs. Morse had a strong belief in God and led a devout Christian life. To all who knew her she was a loving, caring and hopeful person. Anyone she came in contact with, could feel the warmth and friendship that she had to bestow. She will be greatly missed by her friends and family, especially her cherished grandchildren and great grandchildren. Surviving her are two daughters, Dawn L. Olmstead and her husband Gerald of Utica, Susan Morgan and her companion Jack Whorle of Sherburne, one son, August J. Zigon Jr. and his companion Linda Archileca of Dallas, TX, fifteen grandchildren, two great grandchildren, several nieces and nephews. Besides her parents, three husbands and her companion Mr. Parks she was preceded in death by a son Truman E. Hoke in 1951 and two brothers, Charles S. and James S. Rogers. Calling hours for Mrs. Morse will be on Wednesday (today) from 5:00 until 7:00 pm in Fenner Funeral Home Inc., 115 Court Street; Herkimer. A funeral service in the funeral home will follow at 7:00 pm. The Very Reverend Paul Bailey, Rector of Christ Episcopal Church, Herkimer will officiate. Interment will be on Thursday at 11:00 am in Saint Josephs Cemetery, Hamilton. Expressions of sympathy may be made with memorial donations to the Masonic Care Community. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
