Obituary

Ruth Elizabeth Rodgers, 85, of 82 West Main Street, Mohawk, New York, was surrounded by her children on the morning of, April 1, 2024 when she went home to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Born February 8, 1939, in Herkimer, NY, she was the daughter of William Charles Hyde and Pearl Helen (Damuth) Hyde. She graduated from Herkimer High School in 1957, then spent several years serving as a Salvation Army Officer in and around Bronx, NY. Ruth was a lovingly devoted wife to David Munson Rodgers of 40 years, and together, settled in Ilion, NY and raised nine children. Ruth loved music and her inner light shone through her piercing blue eyes when she sang her favorite hymns. Her voice resonated with passion and purpose. She boldly shared the gospel that she held steadfast to throughout the joys and the sorrows of her life and was well known for her generosity and selflessness. Beneath her soft exterior, was a fierce and courageous fighter; a strong, beautiful woman. Her legacy is found in the light she left in the hearts of her children. She wrote that her grandchildren were each a unique and precious flower in the garden of her heart and felt blessed by each. Her legacy is also seen in the lessons of perseverance and fortitude, and in the fact that when confronted with choices to give up in life, hers was always a resounding "Never!" Her brilliant mind and memory were the envy of all. She never forgot a face, name or a phone number and loved solving complex puzzles. She longed for more time with her family and hated to say farewell. Like her favorite hymns say, she did cling to that old rugged cross, she did lay her trophies and burdens down, she exchanged them for a crown as she allowed it all to be well with her soul. Ruth left an indelible impression on every heart she touched, and those hearts will miss her dearly. Ruth was predeceased by her brothers Eugene F. Hyde, Charles W. Hyde, Robert Hyde, and granddaughters Angela Grimshaw and April (Moore) Rubesh. She is survived by her children Cheryl A. Moore (Michael) of Sellersburg, IN; Jeffrey A.
