Obituary

RICHFIELD SPRINGS - Ruth T. Saxe, 84, of Little Lakes Road, passed away Saturday, Dec. 20, 2008, in Otsego Manor, Cooperstown. She had the comfort of her loving family at her side. She was born Nov. 3, 1924, in Richfield Springs, daughter of the late Hamil R. and Helen E. Herdman Thompson. A lifelong resident of Richfield Springs, she was a graduate of Richfield Springs Central School. She furthered her education, graduating from both SUNY Albany and Herkimer County Community College. On Jan. 29, 1950, she was united in marriage with Aubrey Saxe Jr. in Saint John's Episcopal Church, Richfield Springs. It was a devoted union of nearly 25 years until his passing Jan. 10, 1975. Mrs. Saxe worked as an accountant, first for Smith Ford, Richfield Springs, then H.J. Phillips Chevrolet, Richfield Springs, and for 10 years at Shur-Katch, Richfield Springs, retiring in 1997. She had a strong belief in God and was a member of Saint John's Episcopal Church, Richfield Springs. She was a member of Otsego-Hartwick-Arbutus Chapter No. 201 Order of the Eastern Star, Rebekah Lodge, Cherry Valley, and the Warren Grange. Mrs. Saxe will always be remembered as a loving, caring and hopeful person. She was happiest when she was surrounded by her many friends and family, especially her cherished grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She will be greatly missed. Surviving are one son, Aubrey, and his wife, Collette Saxe, of Richfield Springs; two daughters and their husbands, Sheila and Ed Enstine of Ithaca, and Rita and Carl LaSalle of Gaston, S.C.; nine grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Burial Office from the Book of Common Prayer with Holy Eucharist will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday in Saint John's Episcopal Church, Richfield Springs, with the Rev. John Dixon Bartle, rector, officiating. Interment will be in Lakeview Cemetery next spring. The family will be present in J. Seaton McGrath Funeral Home, 40 West James St., Richfield Springs, to receive relatives and friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday. Expressions of sympathy may be made with memorial donations to the Richfield Springs Volunteer Fire Department. Envelopes are available at the funeral home.
