Obituary

Park Ridge County, Ill. - Ruth Hane (Fenner) Sporer, 74, died Wednesday, March 13, 2002, in the Palliative Care Hospice Center of Skokie, Ill. She was born on Dec. 3, 1927, in Herkimer, daughter of the late Gerald Milo and Margaret Elizabeth Hane Fenner. Raised and educated in Herkimer, she graduated from Herkimer High School "Class of 1945." Ruth continued her education, graduating from Ohio State University with a bachelor of science degree in education in 1948. She received her master's degree in psychology from Syracuse University in 1949. Soon after completing her education, she moved to Illinois where she raised her family along with pursuing her career for over 30 years as a school psychologist with the public school system in the south suburbs of Chicago. She retired in 1994. Surviving are four daughters, Susan J Sporer and her friend Mary Cameli of Chicago, Ill., Sara A. Marienthal and her husband Frederic III, of Boulder, Colo., Jennifer L. Oosterbaan and her husband Ronald of Park Forest, Ill., and Abigail M. Wingen and her husband Neal of Algonquin, Ill.; two brothers and their wives, Donald M. and Mary Ellen Fenner of Springfield Center and Dr. Bradford J. and Joanne Fenner of Dayton, Ohio; six grandchildren, Samuel, Thomas and Matthew Wingen, Alessandria Marienthal and Fenner and Tava Oosterbaan; several nieces, nephews and cousins. The funeral service will be on Monday at 11 a.m. in Fenner Funeral Home Inc., 115 Court St., Herkimer. The Rev. Persis Williams, rector of St. Mary's Episcopal Church, Springfield Center, and the Rev. David Kirkpatrick, chaplain of the Masonic Home, Utica, will co-officiate. Interment will follow in the family plot at Oak Hill Cemetery. The family will be present in the funeral home to receive relatives and friends on Monday morning from 9-11 a.m.. Memorial donations may be made to the Palliative Care Center and Hospice of North Shore, 2821 Center St., Evanston, Ill. 60201 or the Fort Herkimer Church Restoration Fund, c/o Ken Palmer, 19 Walnut St., Mohawk, N.Y. 13407.
