Obituary

RICHFIELD SPRINGS - Samuel Adamany, age 94 , passed away peacefully on Sunday July 27, 2014 in Bassett Healthcare, Cooperstown. He had the comfort of knowing his daughter and son-in-law were at his side. He was born in Utica on February 28, 1920, a son of the late Aid and Anna Hamjy Adamany. Raised and educated in Utica he graduated from Utica Free Academy and Utica Proctor. For over twenty-nine years he was employed as a Dye Mounter with Mohawk Container Company in New Hartford. He retired in 1982. In his leisure time he did intrigate woodworking with a scroll saw. He enjoyed making mantel clocks, wagons, trucks and portraits. Each piece was a gifted work of art. On November 4, 1989 he married Mattie Hilts in the Congregational Church, Bridgewater. They shared a loving and devoted life together for 16 years until her passing on December 31, 2005. Sam will always be remembered as a kind, gentle, warm hearted man who truly enjoyed being with people. He will be sadly missed by all who knew him. Surviving are a daughter and son-in-law Beverly and Louis Thorne of Elmira, MI, a brother, Abraham (Abe) Adamany, a sister, Rose Dote both of Utica. 2 grandchildren Cliff Thorne and Jean Bollinger, four great-grandsons, several nieces nephews and cousins. A funeral service will be held on Thursday at 11:00am in Fenner Funeral Home Inc. 115 Court Street, Herkimer. Interment will follow in Oak Hill Cemetery. There are no calling hours. Expressions of sympathy may be made to the Richfield Springs Volunteer Rescue Squad. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
