MOHAWK - Samuel J. Lamanna, Jr. age 66 of Creek Road, passed away unexpectedly on Monday, February 19, 2007 in Bassett Healthcare, Cooperstown with his loving family at his side. He was born on September 22, 1940 in Herkimer a son of the late Samuel J. and Mary Nuno Lamanna. A life long area resident he was educated in Herkimer. Until 1980 he was employed with the NYS Dept of Highways. On February 14 2000 he married the former Virginia Smith in Mohawk. Sam will always be remembered for his strong will and down to earth manner. Conversations could be frank and to the point yet there was a sense of warmth and friendship when you were with him. He will be greatly missed by his friends and especially his family. Surviving besides wife Virginia, are his children, Samuel Lamanna, III and his wife Cynthia Puffy of Whitesboro, Cory Lamanna of Syracuse, Melissa Pine and her husband Robert of Herkimer, his step children Matthew and Brenda McRedmond of Dolgeville, Regina McRedmond of Ilion, Jody and Ann McRedmond of Cedarville, Francis McRedmond of West Winfield, three brothers, Raymond Lamanna and his wife Joann, Anthony Lamanna all of Mohawk, John Lamanna and his wife Marion of Syracuse, two sisters, Lucille Vincent and her husband Ronald of Utica, Patricia Hellings and her husband Thomas of Mohawk, many grandchildren, several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his mother Mary in March of 2006 and his father and mother-in-law Raymond and Hazel Smith. Funeral service will be at the convenience of the family.
