Obituary

ILION-Sandra Lee Briggs, age 80, passed away peacefully on Friday morning, December 3, 2021, in Faxton- Saint Luke's Medical Center, New Hartford. She was born on November 20, 1941, in Herkimer, daughter of the late Harold and Ida Hoffman Ruehl. A lifelong area resident she was raised in Herkimer and was a graduate of Herkimer High School with the class of 1960. She first worked for Orion Bus Manufacturing Company in Utica and for 12 years at the General Electric Company in Utica. She retired in 2005. Sandra was first married to Elbert Goss and later to Joseph M. Salatino who preceded her in death. On November 1, 2015, she was united in marriage to Marvin "Sonny" L. Briggs at the Bella Vista Restaurant in Little Falls. They made their home in Ilion and have resided there since. Mrs. Briggs was an active member of both the Crowley-Barnum American Legion Post #25 Ladies Auxiliary in Mohawk and the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post # 4515 Ladies Auxiliary in Herkimer. To all who knew her, they will never forget a friendly, caring and generous lady with a big heart. Sandy treated everyone like family. She worried about others and was always there to help them while looking for nothing in return. She was most content when surrounded by her many friends and family, especially her cherished grandchildren and great grandchildren. She will be greatly missed. She is survived by her loving and devoted husband, Sonny Briggs, her daughter, Lynnell Goss of Herkimer a step-daughter, Cindy Vespi and her husband Guy of Little Falls, one step-son, Steven Briggs and his wife Deborah of Mohawk, two sisters, Sharon Saegesser of Westminster, MD, Linda Spatto and her husband Frank of German Flatts, a sister-in-law, Dee Dee Citriniti of New Hartford, five grandchildren, Courtney Briggs and her companion Rob Silva of Frankfort, Erica Briggs and her companion Andy Kroll of Mohawk, Alexandra Ulinski and husband DJ of Houston, TX, Jason Vespi and his wife Kayli of Henrietta, Lucas Vespi and his companion Meredith of Little Falls, two great-grandchildren, Donovan and Raelynn Silva, several nieces, nephews and cousins. Calling hours for Mrs. Briggs will be on Sunday from 1:00 until 3:00 pm in Fenner Funeral Home, Inc., 115 Court Street; Herkimer. A funeral service will follow in the funeral home at 3:00 pm with the Reverend Joelle Faulks, pastor of the First United Methodist Church Herkimer/Little Falls officiating. At the completion of the funeral service everyone is invited to the Crowley-Barnum American Legion Post #25 in Mohawk for a Celebration of Sandra's Life. Members of the Crowley-Barnum American Legion Post Ladies Auxiliary are asked to gather at the funeral home on Sunday, at 2:45pm to pay their respects.
