RICHFIELD SPRINGS-Sara Mizerak, age 88, formerly of East Main Street and recently at The Commons on St. Anthony, Auburn, passed away peacefully on Wednesday afternoon August 3, 2016. She had the comfort of her loving family at her side. Sara was born on November 22, 1927 in the town of Warren, daughter of the late Titko and Tekla Papach Plaskon. A lifelong area resident, she grew up in Richfield Springs and was a graduate of Richfield Springs High School. She furthered her education at the Syracuse Business School. On October 6, 1956 she was united in marriage with Stephen D. Mizerak in Saint Marks Episcopal Church in Syracuse. They made their home in Massena, Gouverneur, and Alexandria Bay prior to building a home in Richfield Springs in 1968. They shared a loving and devoted union of fifty-seven years until his passing on November 20, 2013. Mrs. Mizerak worked as a secretary first for Vincent S. Jerry and Sons in Massena and later for Myran A. Jordan and then James Jordan Associates Architects in Richfield Springs. She also shared the responsibility of Recording Secretary for her husband Steves Laborers Local #322 and was recognized by Washington for her detailed minutes. Mrs. Mizerak had a strong belief in God and was a member of Saint Johns Episcopal Church, Richfield Springs.
To all who knew her, Sara was most happy in the company of her family and friends and was always interested in hearing their stories and good fortune regardless of how big or small. She cherished her View of the World from her kitchen window on Route US #20, In retirement she enjoyed rides in the country, going to dinner and the small time slots at the Turning Stone. Those closest to Sara were her sister, Ollie, cousin Barb Steckler and long-time neighbor and friend Marie Hameister.
Surviving her are one son, Steven D. Mizerak and his wife Kaitlyn of Whitesboro, a daughter, Joanna Tomlinson and her husband John of Skaneateles, five grandchildren, Nicholas and Samuel Mizerak of Whitesboro and David Mizerak of San Antonio, TX, Sarah and Alexandra Tomlinson of Skaneateles, a sister Olga(Ollie) Mizerak of Springfield Center, a niece, Kristina Dahl and her husband Nelson,, two great nieces, Loni and Riley Burnette all of Phoenix, AZ Besides her parents and husband Stephen she was preceded in death by her sister Ann Konovich, a nephew, Philip Konovich and brother-in-law Milan Mizerak.
Calling hours for Mrs. Mizerak will be on Sunday from 3:00 until 6:00 pm in J. Seaton McGrath Funeral Home, 40 West James Street; Richfield Springs.
A service of the Burial of the Dead from the Book of Common Prayer will take place on Monday at 11:00 am in Saint Johns Episcopal Church, Richfield Springs. The Reverend John Dixon Bartle, Rector will officiate. Interment will follow in Lakeview Cemetery.
Expressions of sympathy may be made with memorial donations to Richfield Springs Volunteer Fire Department. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
