Obituary

RICHFIELD SPRINGS - Sharon Marie Kane, age 56, of Lake Street, passed away on Monday morning, October 19, 2009, in Mary Imogene Bassett Hospital. She had the comfort of her loving family at her side. She was born on October 1, 1953, in Herkimer, daughter of the late Daniel D. and Julia Reynolds Skramko. Sharon was raised in Georgetown and was educated in Georgetown and Otselic Valley High School. On July 17, 1971, she was united in marriage to Steven Kane in Georgetown. She first traveled with her husband who was serving in the US Army. Upon completion of his military service, they settled in Georgetown, and in 1977 moved to Richfield Springs where they have remained.At one time, Sharon had worked as a waitress at the Village Inn, the Tally-Ho, Richfield Springs, as well as working in the family business at Kanes Overhead Door in Herkimer and later Ilion. More recently, she was employed as a day care worker for the Brookwood School in Cooperstown.Sharon had a true sense of community. She was a volunteer for the Zone in its early stages, the Head Start Program, where she earned a Certificate of Merit for volunteering, and was active in her grandchildrens sports programs. To her family, cherished are the holidays that she made so special. No one will forget the memories of the aromas of her baking that warmed their home or the special decorations on the front porch during the Halloween and Christmas seasons for all of Richfield Springs to see and enjoy. She was happiest when she was surrounded by her many friends and family, especially her six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. She will be greatly missed.Surviving besides her devoted husband of thirty-eight years, Steve, are two sons, Steven Kane, Jr., and Shawn Kane and his wife, Kristin; a daughter, Shari Crane and her husband, Kerry, all of Richfield Springs; two sisters, Carol Malone, of Decatur, IN, and Marcia Kelley and her husband, Patrick, of North Syracuse; a brother, Daniel Rick Skramko and his wife, Julie, of Georgetown; six grandchildren, Brandon, Marissa, Ashley, Riley, Jacob and Daniel; three great-grandchildren, Melanie, Christopher and Cali; and many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.Funeral from J. Seaton McGrath Funeral Home, 40 West James Street, Richfield Springs, on Saturday at 9:30 a.m., with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m. in Saint Joseph the Worker Church, Richfield Springs. The Reverend Terence Healy, Pastor, will officiate. Interment will follow in Saint Josephs Cemetery, Richfield Springs.The family will be present in the funeral home to receive relatives and friends on Friday from 2:00 to 4:00 and 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. Expressions of sympathy may be made with memorial donations to the Richfield Springs Emergency Rescue Squad. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
