HERKIMER-Shirley DeLavergne age 79 formerly of Henry Street, passed away on Wednesday morning October 13, 2010 in Faxton-St Lukes Medical Center, New Hartford.
She was born on October 28, 1930 in Herkimer, daughter of the late Clarence and Glenora Butts DeLavergne. A lifelong Herkimer resident she was a graduate of Herkimer High School. An honorably discharged veteran of the Korean Conflict she served proudly with the United States Navy.
For fifteen years Shirley worked as a Health Worker for the Utica Psychiatric Center, retiring in 1992.
She was a member of the First United Methodist Church Herkimer/Little Falls. In her leisure time, crafts were her main interest. She enjoyed knitting sweaters and other knit wear and sold them at various Arts & Crafts Fairs.
To all who knew her, she was a caring and gentle woman with an unforgettable smile. She will be greatly missed by her many friends in Herkimer and the Mohawk Valley Nursing Home where she has resided these past five years.
Surviving are one sister Jean Hart and her husband Frank, one nephew Thomas Hart and his wife Theresa all of Ilion and her lifelong friend Doris Balch of Herkimer.
Funeral service will be on Monday at 1:00 pm in Fenner Funeral Home Inc., 115 Court Street; Herkimer. The Reverend Janet Gleason, Pastor of the First United Methodist Church Herkimer/Little Falls will officiate. Interment will follow in Oak Hill Cemetery. The family will be present in the funeral home to receive relatives and friends on Monday two hours prior to the funeral service (11:00 am to 1:00 pm). Expressions of sympathy may be made with memorial donations to the Herkimer County Humane Society. Envelops will be available at the funeral home.
