Obituary

HERKIMER-Shirley Jane Hartman age 80 passed away peacefully on Monday morning February 6, 2012 in Little Falls Hospital. She was born on December 12, 1931 in Herkimer, daughter of the late Walter and Florence Foster Eysaman. Alifelong Herkimer resident, she was a graduate of Herkimer High School and furthered her education at the Utica School of Commerce. On July 28, 1950 she was united in marriage with Charles W. Hartman in Saint Francis deSales Church, Herkimer. They shared a loving and devoted union of twenty-nine years until his passing on June 9, 1979. For ten years Mrs. Hartman worked as a bookkeeper and head cashier for the H. G.Munger Department Store which later became Howlands Department Store in Herkimer. She retired in 1978. Mrs. Hartman had a strong belief in God and was a member of Saint Francis deSales Church, Herkimer. In her younger years she found enjoyment in bowling. Shirleys life was devoted to her family to whom she provided support and love. Her most joyful moments were when her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren were gathered in her home. She will be greatly missed. She is survived by six sons, Thomas W. Hartman and his wife Pamela of Niskayuna, Richard Rick Hartman and his wife Gina of Herkimer, James W. Hartman of Herkimer, John Jack Hartman and his wife Venessa of Lakeland, FL, Gary M. Hartman and his wife Janice of Herkimer, Daniel J. Hartman of Verona, fifteen grandchildren, Michael and Kathleen Hartman, Barbara and Maureen Hartman, Carolyn Saugh, Audrey Piccione, Matthew, Adam, Kara, Michelle Hartman, John and Lisa Hartman, Tim, Rick and Maria Hartman, six great grandchildren, Chloe, Anjali, Maya, Marcella, Mia and Madeline, three sisters-in-law, Catherine Flynn, Mary Mason and Alice Smith along with many nieces and nephews including a special niece, Elizabeth Singer. Besides her parents and husband Charles, she was preceded in death by an infant son Terrance E. Hartman in 1964 and one sister Thelma Garvey in 1985. Funeral from Fenner Funeral Home Inc., 115 Court Street, Herkimer on Thursday at 9:30 am. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 am in Saint Francis deSales Church, Herkimer with the Reverend Mark Cunningham, pastor officiating. Interment in Calvary Cemetery will be later this spring at a time to be announced. The family will be present in the funeral home to receive relatives and friends on Wednesday (today) from 4:00 until 7:00 pm. Expressions of sympathy may be made with memorial donations to Saint Francis deSales Church or the American Diabetes Association. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home. The family would like to extend its sincere appreciation to the doctors, nurses and support staff at Mary Imogene Bassett Hospital, Valley Health Services Inc. and most especially, Little Falls Hospital for the care, comfort and compassion they provided to Shirley and her family.
