HERKIMER-Shirley Ann L. Miller, age 89, passed away peacefully on Wednesday November 11, 2021 in Little Falls Hospital. She was born on March 25, 1932 in Herkimer, daughter of the late Thomas G. and Florence Evans Lewis. Lifelong Mohawk Valley resident, she was a graduate of Herkimer High School with the class of 1951. On January 12, 1952, she was united in marriage to the love of her life Stanley T. Miller in Christ Episcopal Church in Herkimer. They shared a devoted union of nearly sixteen years when her husband sadly preceded her in death on January 3, 1968. For many years Mrs. Miller worked as telephone operator. First for New York Telephone Company located in Herkimer and later for AT&T in Utica. She retired after thirty-six years and nine months of loyal service in 1991.
Shirley had a strong belief in God and was a lifelong member of Christ Episcopal Church in Herkimer. She was very active in her church life and was a member of the Daughters of the King, Saint Mary's Guild, the Church Choir and Church Vestry. She was also a member the Telephone Pioneers. In her leisure time she enjoyed photography and could always be counted on to be taking pictures at family gatherings. All who knew her will never forget a kind, caring lady with a heart of gold. She was happiest when she with her friends and family, especially her cherished nine grandchildren and many great-grandchildren. She will be greatly missed.
Surviving are her daughter, Linda Smithson and her husband David of Frankfort, three sons, Stanley Miller and his wife Brenda of Utica, Richard Miller and his wife Sabine of Sierra Vista, AZ, Jeffrey Miller of Lansing, KS, nine grandchildren, Scott Miller and his wife Kim of Ilion, Jodi Miller of Oceola, MO, Patricia Mulligan and her husband Walter of Lima, OH, Frank Miller and his wife Crystal of Radcliff, KY, Stephanie Leek and her husband Brad of Williamsburg, VA, TrishiaSmithson of Frankfort, Jeremy Smithson and his wife Melissa of Ilion, Christa Grunewald and her husband Danny of Wamego, KS and Laura Lewis and her husband Andy of Kansas City, KS, along with many great-grandchildren, several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Calling hours for Mrs. Miller will be on Monday from 5:00 until 8:00 pm in Fenner Funeral Home, Inc., 115 Court Street; Herkimer.
Her life will be remembered and celebrated on Tuesday at 11:00 am with a service and Holy Communion from The Book of Common Prayer in Christ Episcopal Church, Herkimer. The Reverend Steven Scarcia will officiate. Expressions of sympathy may be made with memorial donations to the charity of your choice.
