Obituary

HERKIMER Shirley Jean Riesel, age 73, of Gray Street, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, July 19, 2011 at the Abraham House, Utica with her family at her side. She was born on October 27, 1937 in Tunkhannock, PA, daughter of the late Clayton and Madeline Keithline Sheffler. As a young child she and her family moved to Middleville. She was a graduate of from West Canada Valley High School. On April 12, 1970 she was united in marriage with Charles Riesel in the town of Little Falls. For over twenty-six years she worked for the P & C Food Store in Herkimer as a cashier and later in the floral department. She retired in 2000. She had a strong belief in God and was a member of the Middleville United Methodist Church. To all who knew Shirley they will remember her calm and quiet manner, especially her devotion to her family. She will be greatly missed. Surviving are four sons, Jeffrey Farrington and his wife Sherry of Canastota, Jamie Farrington and his wife Sherry of Little Falls, Jody Farrington, Chad Riesel his fianc Lesley Sanzo all of Herkimer, a daughter Janaye Lowe and her husband Christopher of St. Augustine, Fl., two brothers Sam Sheffler and his wife Shirley of Herkimer and Clayton Sheffler and his wife Peggy of Factoryville, PA, two sisters Betty Lynch and her husband James of Dolgeville, Beverly Mower and her husband Arnold of Middleville, five grandchildren Jeffrey Farrington and his wife Jennifer, Erin Fenn and her husband Robert, Aubrey Rastrelli and her husband Edward, Jordan Lowe and Codi Louis, three great-grandchildren, Jack Farrington, Clayton and Brennan Rastrelli, in-laws Paul and Josie Riesel of GA,, Henry and Janie Riesel of Herkimer, Daniel and Mary-Margaret Riesel of Mohawk, Robert and Karen Riesel of Ilion, Dorothy and James Griffith , Elaine and George Lyga all of Herkimer, many nieces, nephews and cousins. Besides her parents she was preceded in death by a sister Althea Mirabelli. In keeping with Shirleys wishes the funeral service and interment will be private and at the convenience of the family. Memorial donations may be made with donations to the Abraham House, 1203 Kemble Street, Utica, NY 13501.There are no calling hours. Funeral arrangements are with Fenner Funeral Home, Inc., Herkimer.
