Obituary

RICHFIELD SPRINGS Sidney W. Starr, 84, of Monticello Road, passed away peacefully on Wednesday morning March 16, 2011 in the Otsego Manor. A son of the late Howard and Lora Dagenkolb Starr he was born on July 4, 1926, in the family farmhouse on Monticello Road. A lifelong area resident he graduated from Richfield Springs High School with the class of 1944. He worked for Richards Feed Mill prior to starting the Starr Well Drilling and Pump Service. On April12, 1946, he married the former Lorraine Marie Budka. Marie passed away in 2009. His second marriage took place on July 21, 1982 to Patricia Lindsay. Sid had a strong faith in God and was a member of the Church of Christ Uniting. A community minded man he took pride in his membership of 59 years with the Richfield Springs Lodge #482 Free and Accepted Masons. He also held membership with the Ziyara Shrine, AAONMS, Utica, and the Ziyara Motor Corps, the Empire State Water Drillers Assoc., the Watauga Hunting Club of Stratford. Sid was a man who lived life to the fullest, his enjoyments included hunting, snowmobiling and shared times with family and friends. Always willing to lend a helping hand to others, his smile, actions and warm words were a comfort to those who knew him. He will be greatly missed. Surviving are his wife Patricia, two sons, Derrick Starr and his wife Carol, Mitchell Starr all of Richfield Springs, six grandchildren, Jeffrey, Kama Christopher, Michael, Taylor and Hannah Starr, three great-grandchildren, Adam, Carson, and Hadley, a sister, Alma Rosenbaum of Florida, step children, Edward and Cindy Lindsay, Michael and Lisa Lindsay and Mary Beth Barnhart, nieces, nephews and cousins. Besides his parents he was preceded in death by two sons, Lee Sidney, and Christopher Wallace Starr, a granddaughter Marie Rebecca Starr, and his two brothers, James and Robert Starr. Funeral service will be held on Monday at 11:30 am in the Church of Christ Uniting, Richfield Springs. Reverend Deborah Waldron, pastor will officiate. . Interment will be private and at the convenience of the family. The family will be present to receive relatives and friends on Sunday from 4:00 until 7:00 pm in J. Seaton McGrath Funeral Home, 40 West James Street, Richfield Springs Expressions of sympathy may be made with donations to the Richfield Springs Emergency Squad. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home. Members of the Richfield Springs Lodge #482 F.&A.M. are asked to meet in the funeral home at 6:00 p.m. for a ritualistic service.
