Obituary

HERKIMER-Silvana Spagnolo "Sylvia" age 87 passed away peacefully on Tuesday afternoon December 2, 2014 in Bassett Medical Center, Cooperstown. She had the comfort of her loving family by her side. ?She was born on September 20, 1927 in Supino, Italy, daughter of the late Ferdinando and Virginia Tomei Peruzzi. Sylvia was raised in Italy and attended Rome, Italy public schools. On October 12, 1947 she was united in marriage with Nicola Spagnolo in Rome. They shared a loving and devoted union of sixty-three years until his passing on July 1, 2011. ?Sylvia with her younger brother Alvaro Peruzzi came to this country in 1947 and made their home in Little Falls. Her husband Nicola joined her a year later. In 1963 she and her husband moved to Herkimer. For seventeen years Mrs. Spagnolo worked in the check and repair department at Mohawk Data Sciences in Herkimer. She retired in 1984. ?Mrs. Spagnolo had a strong belief in God and was a faithful member of Saint Francis deSales Church, Herkimer. To those who knew her she was a very active woman; she liked to go for walks and most days would walk up to three miles. She enjoyed traveling and was also an avid golfer. She took pride in her home where she found joy cooking for her family and working in her garden. Sylvia was happiest when she was surrounded by friends and family especially her cherished grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She truly loved her family and they loved her in return. She will be greatly missed by her adoring family. ?Surviving are her son, Angelo Spagnolo and his wife Ruth of Little Falls, three daughters, Anna Spagnolo and her husband Robert Podgurski; Isabella Crandall and her husband Charles III all of Herkimer; Diana Spagnolo Burns of Tequesta, FL; a brother Alvaro Peruzzi of Little Falls; eleven grandchildren, Sylvia George, Renee Spagnolo beloved wife of the late Angelo Spagnolo Jr., Brian Stefka and his wife Jennifer, Michelle Stefka-Mouchantaf and her husband Fares, Christopher Stefka, Charles Crandall IV and his wife Natalie, Nicole Crandall, Shane Crandall, Matthew Burns, Sarah Burns, Nathan Burns and Zachary Burns; six great-grandchildren, Joseph Spagnolo, David George, Steven George, Nicolas Mouchantaf, Fares Mouchantaf and Lydia Mouchantaf; several nieces, nephews and cousins. Besides her parents and husband, Nicola, she was preceded in death by a sister-in-law Rosemarie Peruzzi and grandson, Angelo Spagnolo Jr. ?Calling hours for Mrs. Spagnolo will be on Friday from 4:00 until 7:00 pm in Fenner Funeral Home, Inc., 115 Court Street, Herkimer. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday at 10:00 am in Saint Francis deSales Church, Herkimer with the Very Reverend Mark Cunningham V.F., Pastor officiating. Interment will follow in Saint Mary's Cemetery, town of Little Falls. Expressions of sympathy may be made with memorial donations to the Herkimer Foundation of Hospice & Palliative Care, 4277 Middle Settlement Road, New Hartford, NY 13413 or Saint Francis deSales Church, Herkimer. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
