Sophie B. ArcherRICHFIELD SPRINGS - Sophie B.Archer 87 of 67 Walnut Street passed away peacefully on Sunday evening April 23,2000 in her home with her loving family at her side.She was born on December 4, 1912 in the town of Middlefield, a daughter ofthe late William and Rose Janiec Bibik. Sophie was raised in Richfield Springsand graduated from Richfield Springs High School. She then went on to CornellUniversity where she had graduated with the "Class of 1935" with aBachelor of Art Degree in Dietary Planning. On July 23, 1938 she married GeorgeE. Archer in St. Joseph's Church, Richfield Springs. A blessed union ofForty-two years until his passing on August 9, 1980. She and her husband movedto Richfield Springs in 1947 coming here from Wilson, CT. It was that year theypurchased the Chef Diner on West Main Street and ran it until their retirementin 1977
She was a member of St. Joseph's Church, Richfield Springs, the Rosary AltarSociety of the Church, and for several years was a Girl Scout Leader.
Surviving her are a daughter Barbara and her husband Thomas Bates ofRichfield Springs, three brothers Benjamin Bibik of Schuyler Lake, Vincent andhis wife Katherine Bibik of Fayetteville, Harold Bibik of Rome, four sistersFrances and her husband Robert Newsome of Richmond, VA, Mary and her husbandJames Andrecheck of South Columbia, Elizabeth Eaton of Schoharie, JosephineBibik of Richmond VA, one grandson Russell Bloomfield of Leominster, MA, asister-in-law Marjorie Collier of CT, several nieces and nephews.
Besides her husband George she was preceded by two brothers Edward andStanley Bibik and a sister Anna Maxwell.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday at 10:00AM in St..Joseph's Church Richfield Springs with the Rev. Terrance Healy officiating.Interment will be following in St. Joseph' Cemetery. There are no calling hours.
Memorial Donations may be made to the Richfield Springs Rescue Squad, theCatskill Area Hospice or the West Winfield Fire Dept. Rescue Squad.
